Tax Campaign
Trace the Tax Campaign
Imagine if impoverished countries had the money to get out of poverty. The truth is, they do - if international companies were to pay the right tax at the right time in the right place.
International bodies such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recognise that tax avoidance and evasion by some unscrupulous companies is likely to cost impoverished countries more than they receive in aid. We estimate that it may be as much as $160 billion each year.
Christian Aid and Debt & Development Coalition Ireland are calling for a new international accounting standard of country-by-country reporting that would require companies to reveal the profits they are making and the taxes they are paying in every country where they operate.
You can have a key role in making this happen. We want governments and companies to recognise that paying the right taxes in the right places is a moral issue. They should support country-by-country reporting and demand that the body who sets the rules on financial accounting - the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) - implement this new standard for companies.
