Teachers Conference: Connecting the Head, Heart and Hands
3 March 2012
Many of the great educators and philosophers all argued for the equal importance of the head, heart, and hands in learning.
Yet linking knowing and doing in education raises many questions: What kind of action is appropriate and realistic within a school setting? How can teachers avoid 'pre-packaged' solutions and instead provide learners with the tools and skills that will enable them take informed decisions on alternative actions? Are different
pedagogical approaches needed to engage more than the head? How can TY programmes provide a more integrated approach to learning?
This conference will explore how environmental and economic justice, and human rights education can help integrate learning and action in a way that respects
students' autonomy and enables them to engage in meaningful action for change.
The conference is organised by Amnesty, DDCI, Mayfield Arts and TrĂ³caire
